Story from Anja Zupin, Social Media Consultant and administrative coordinator for @SHESKILLZGLOBAL
I guess my story is one of many motherhood stories. What makes it a bit different is that I unexpectedly became a mother of twins and that I don’t have a regular job.
My job is super flexible: working in the pharmacy when needed (flying pharmacist), working online (#SheSkillzGlobal), mountain guiding, and teaching skiing. One might wonder how all of that fits together. It works if you have all the time in the world just for yourself 😊!
However, with twins, things change. Time slows down and flies even faster at the same time, and priorities get another dimension. There is almost no free time for parents. Honestly, I don’t know how it is to have one child, but after having two, I can imagine that it might be a bit easier to have one (depending on how demanding the child is). The beginning was challenging, I will not hide. Luckily, in Slovenia, we have an extended maternity leave for having twins, which was a big help. However, the time comes when a mother has to return to work.
Self-employment proved to be an advantage. It enabled me to create a rhythm that could adjust to the needs of my children. I believe the first three years of a childhood are crucial, and being present as much as possible is the key. Of course, this means less time for career growth, but in exchange, I’ve learned to be more efficient with the limited time I have for myself.

Having twins brings double luck, double care, and consequently doubles the awareness that we have just one life, one chance to be a good mother to two little dwarfs. At the same time, it’s also a reminder that I need to take care of myself—staying fit and independent, even with the wonderful support of my husband.
Balancing motherhood and self-employment is challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. Staying organized, being flexible, and finding a routine that works for both my family and my work has made it possible. It’s not always easy, but it’s a journey worth taking.
